You sent me an e-mail with all of my settings. What do they actually mean?
Each of the settings in the e-mail we sent you contains parameters your e-mail program will use to set up your account.
- E-mail address: postmaster@anydomain.com The actual name of your e-mail address. Incoming POP3 e-mail host name: mail.anydomain.com This is the mail server that accepts and then either stores or forwards your e-mail. It is not a server that will send mail from your account. This is also called the "incoming server" in most e-mail programs.
POP3 e-mail user-id: anydomain The user id is based on your domain name without the .com, .net, or .org.
POP3 e-mail password: abcd-1234 The password is set up when you create the account. However, we do not have access to it, so be certain to remember the password or you will need to reset it when you want to use it.
Outgoing SMTP e-mail host name: This is the contact your existing Internet Service Provider for this information
All mail addressed to (anything)@anydomain.com will be sent to this default e-mail box. This will show up on the server as *@anydomain.com. The "anything" account allows all mail sent to your domain to be captured by our server. This is an excellent safeguard for misspellings and employees who may have left but their mail might still be important.
- Forwarding address: anywhere@elsewhere.com If you don't want the mail stored on our server or have a central website where you pick up all your mail.

When you install Eudora it will prompt you for your user information. Fill it out with the corresponding fields from your account.
Can one e-mail program check more than one e-mail account?
Yes. In Outlook or Outlook express, simply adding additional accounts will automatically add new incoming e-mail boxes. You can create new accounts. Go to TOOLS > Accounts > and you will get a dialogue box. Click on ADD and you will get the set up wizard. A previous question provides the step-by-step instructions.
In paid version of Eudora (not the free one), you can create new accounts (or personalities) and you have the option of clicking a box that says "check simultaneously." For detail instructions go to http://www.eudora.com/techsupport/kb/1471hq.html
How do I check my email from multiple stations such as home and work?
You need to configure email client software such as Netscape Messenger or Outlook Express. We have support articles on how to configure Messenger precisely. Search for Messenger on the FAQ Database homepage, or click on the 'Email' link.
Please review the example below:
Jane wants to check her email from both work and home from her domain accounts mail server at WebSiteCenter.
The problem is that if she checks messages at work, and downloads them to her local mail, she will not be able to download the same messages from home because she has removed messages from the server.
Therefore, what we recommend is that Jane sets up her email at work to "Leave Messages on the Server" - this is a standard option in either Netscape Messenger 4.5 or Outlook / Outlook Express (Consult the help menus of these applications to learn where you can set the settings for 'Leave Messages on the Server').
With this option selected in your email client software you client software will download only copies of the messages, and leave original messages on the server for later retrieval.
We highly recommend this method and further recommend that you configure your email client software:
- at work to 'Leave Messages on the server'.
- at home do not use 'leave messages on the server'. This way, when you are home you have access to ALL of your email.
This solution we have found works best for most who are migrating between work and home.
How large is my e-mail box? Can I make it larger?
Most boxes are 5 megs. If your box consistently fills up (at least two or three times a week) we can increase the size to 10 and then 15 megs but no more.
It is taking a couple of hours for my forwarded mail to arrive at my other account. What's wrong?
When mail is forwarded from our server to another server, the other server must will able and willing to receive the message. If that server can't accept the message, it will defer it. Our server will try again (and again and again). Depending on the status of the other computer, we will try for four days before giving up and sending a message to the originator as undeliverable. |
